SharePoint Saturday NYC recap

SharePoint Saturday NYC recap

Last week I had the privilege of giving a session in New York City during it’s SharePoint Saturday event. This great event was hosted by Peter Ward, Tim Ferro, Tom Daly and a whole team behind them. They did a great job hosting this event in this great city. It was my first time to New York so it was a little overwhelming in the beginning.

The Event

During the event I had the opportunity to follow 2 sessions. The first one was from Scot Hillier about Developing Office Add-ins with Angular 2. I have some experience with Angular 1 but did not have the time yet to get more acquainted with Angular 2 so this session was very interesting. The second session was from  Bob German about the new SharePoint framework. He was lucky to get invited to one of the dev-kitchens Microsoft organized for a select audience. This gave me a unique insight of things to come. If you ever have the opportunity to sit in one of these sessions from Bob or from another MVP you must take it because it’s very eye-opening. More information about the event and slides can be found on Lanyrd. A big thanks to the organizers for having me at this great event and it was cool to meet people in person which I know online from social media and blogs.

My own session went very good. None of my demo’s failed which is good because this was the first time I did this session. It was about speeding up your SharePoint Portal to Mach 1. I find it a very useful topic because it’s an overview of the things I’ve learned in the past year from my work at KBC. I also want to give a special thanks to my colleagues there for helping me creating this session and teaching me the way Office 365 and Azure work in a global +25000 user environment. Here are my slides and my code can be found on GitHub.
